Words from my heart to yours
Over the years my practice & knowledge of Yoga continues to expand beyond the physical aspects. Like many of us my Yoga journey began in a traditional Yoga Studio being led through a variety of Asanas (Yoga Poses). I like most people kept coming back to the practice because of how I felt at the end of the practice.
Something always 'shifted' during the practice & I simply left feeling 'better'.
Over the years as my knowledge deepened & my practice evolved beyond the physical, I learned more about the energy within our bodies & more tools & practices that could impact this energy within without the use of Asana.
I learnt how to observe the flow of energy within my body, what altered it, what impacted it. This included observing how interactions with others, how the food I drank, the type of breath I took & the physical actions I took all changed & altered this energy within me.
It became clearer & clearer to me that the purpose of this practice of Yoga
was to harmonise this energy within. The more I studied my self, the more aware I became of what I needed to do in-order to harmonise my own energy & the more I was able to able to connect to those around me.
The big shift came when I stopped using these tools reactively but instead
took a proactive approach.
I began a daily practice introduced daily rituals & routines & started living a Yoga Lifestyle. This is when the practice of Yoga really started to make sense to me.
This is also when I had the realisation that I don't want to teach people Asana but I want to teach & share Yoga!
Different parts of the world have different names for this energy such as Chi, Ki, Prana but regardless of what it is called we are all referring to the same universal life force energy that lives within & around all things.
Yoga which is translated to mean 'Yoke' or unite is a practice that connects & unites us with the energy within in us & around us.
The 8 parts of Yoga is designed to give us a road map to support our journey in realising that despite any of our difference we are all united to & apart of the same source (origin) of energy.
As we journey towards this realisation of 'oneness' it is inevitable that we become, kinder, more compassionate, loving, generous & greatful beings towards ourselves, each other, our planet & all things.
Once we realise that Yoga is about this connection 'union' of energy then the way in which we impact the connection, flow, movement, of energy widens beyond the use of physical postures (Asana).
My favourite non-asana practices include the use of
Mantra, Mudras & Pranayama
